I'm Forever Blowing Burbujas

What's going on at Upton Park? West Ham United have just signed Argentinian World Cup pair Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez, the latter the South American Footballer of the Year for the past three years. Why would Señor Tevez, in particular, want to go to East London? As an article in today's Guardian says, the Hammers are now transformed into contenders for the UEFA Cup. It could all go wrong though - does anybody remember Alberto Tarantini's transfer to Birmingham after the 1978 World Cup?

Interesting move indeed for two such promising players. A great coup undoubtedly for West Ham. This article throws up some sinister ideas why they may have gone to the 'ammers:

The Guardian article mentioned this too; they are a strangely influential lot MSI, being behind next Sunday's Brazil-Argentina clash at "Islington", as I'm sure the Gooners will come to call the Emirates Stadium. Is Upton Park the vestibule to Stamford Bridge I wonder?

Well, I was three actually. But I do remember the World Cup final of that year because we moved into our new house the day before. As for Tarantini, the memory lingers in the collective memory of football lore...
